Privacy policy
Cool Walks AU (au.coolwalks.dog and the Cool Walks Android app). Last updated 26 September 2026.
The short version. No accounts, no ads, no analytics, and the app sets no cookies. Your location is used on your device to show where you are and is never sent to us. The only thing that reaches us is feedback you choose to send.
Your location
If you allow it, the app uses your device's location to put you on the map and find walks near you. That happens on your device. We do not receive, store or share your location.
What stays on your device
Favourites, ratings, notes, saved routes and the last place you started from are kept in your browser's local storage on your device. We cannot see them. Clearing the site's data, or uninstalling the app, removes them.
Feedback you send us
When you use the Feedback form we receive:
- the category you picked and the message you typed;
- which walk and area you had open, the time of day shown, and the centre of the map view (the map's position, not your device location, though they can be close if the map is following you);
- a one-way hash of your IP address, used only to limit spam. We do not keep the IP address itself.
Feedback is stored in a Cloudflare database and emailed to us so we can act on it. We use it only to fix and improve the app, never sell or share it, and delete it once it has been dealt with. Please do not put personal details in a message. If you would like a message deleted, email us.
Services the app loads from
Like any website, the app fetches content from these services. Each receives your IP address and basic browser details as part of the request, under its own privacy policy:
- Cloudflare hosts the app and receives feedback.
- OpenFreeMap supplies the base map tiles.
- Open-Meteo supplies today's temperature for the area of the walks being shown. It is sent that area's location, never yours.
- Mapillary supplies street-level photos on some walk cards.
- Cloudflare Turnstile may run a spam check when you send feedback.
- Google Maps opens only if you tap Directions.
The Android app
The Android app shows this same website in Chrome. It adds no tracking of its own. Chrome's own privacy policy covers the browser.
Children
The app is for a general audience and is not directed at children.
